Preschool activity: Cornmeal letters

I saw this activity on a friend's blog and thought it looked fun. I actually didn't know what letters Peter could draw, if any, so it was a good test. I put cornmeal in a small tray and let him draw letters with an unsharpened pencil. Then I let him use his fingers. I was shocked at what he already knew.

Then after we worked on letters, I let him do whatever he wanted, which included burying things and marking and "X" and then digging up the "treasure".

However, I then turned my back to work on dishes and this is what happened. I figured it was already a mess, so I let them play and cleaned the *huge* mess later.

Try it! Just be prepared for a mess if you don't prep beforehand.
